There is nothing more Mediterranean minded than the concept of a digital detox. The term "digital detox" represents our need to disconnect from devices in order to regain that balanced state of mind we all idealize. A digital detox involves taking a break from your digital devices to recharge your mind and reconnect with the physical world. By doing so, you can reduce stress, improve your mental health, and increase productivity in other areas of life.

However, if you are like me you find it hard to reconnect back into the digital world after a strict detox.  Instead of cutting off digital entirely, experiment with setting time limits or limits on the amount of media platforms you visit.

Here are a 4 ways to enjoy a balanced Digital Detox without getting FOMO "fear of missing out" anxiety.

Tip 1: Set Boundaries with Screen Time

Let's face it; we've all fallen into the abyss of endless scrolling. Whether it's social media, binge-watching TV series, or odd videos on TikTok, it's so easy to lose track of time. So, here's what you can do: set limits on your screen time.

Apps like Apple's Screen Time and Android's Digital Wellbeing let you track and control how much time you're spending on your digital devices. Set daily or weekly goals for screen time, and you'll be surprised at how much free time you suddenly have for other things like enjoying a nice cup of tea or a walk!

Tip 2: Embrace "Do Not Disturb" Mode

Our smartphones are constantly vying for our attention. Notifications, messages, and alerts can interrupt our focus and steal our precious time. That's where the magic of "Do Not Disturb" mode comes in.

By toggling on "Do Not Disturb," you can silence those pesky notifications during specific hours or when you need some uninterrupted time. It's a game-changer for productivity and mindfulness.  Plus, all your non-urgent notifications will be there when you decide to come back to the phone during your managed screen time, so you won't miss a thing.

Tip 3: Make Screen-Free Zones

Designate certain areas in your home as screen-free zones. The dining table, your bedroom, or even your bathroom can become sacred spaces where screens are a no-no. This helps create a clear boundary between your digital life and your personal life.

Tip 4: Unplug Before Bed

Last but not least, give yourself the gift of a screen-free bedtime routine. The blue light from screens can interfere with your sleep quality, so power down at least an hour before hitting the sack. Pick up a book, meditate, or just unwind without digital distractions. Your sleep patterns will thank you.

Remember, it's not about completely cutting out screens (they're an essential part of modern life), but rather finding the sweet spot where they enhance rather than dominate your day. So, go ahead, set those screen time limits, activate "Do Not Disturb," and embark on a journey to rediscover the beauty of the offline world.
